Using a webcam with Dentrix 11.1
We upgraded to 11.0 sometime in November of last year. The main reason for the upgrade was that we were using eClaims and wanted to be able to attach images to some of our claims. Our staff was told by Dentrix that we would have to upgrade from 10.5 to 11.0 in order to do that.
So, we did.
Turns out that attachments to eClaims doesn’t work. We call Dentrix support and find out that some offices are having trouble with that and that it will be fixed in G2.
After using 11.0 for a couple of months the Dr. and the Front Desk staff were complaining that the chart and ledger were taking a long time to update. So, last week we installed the 11.0 Performance Update (thanks to a post on DentalTown by Justin Shafer). Things did seem a little faster.
A few days later the Front Desk staff says that the webcams we use to take patient pictures for the appointment book are no longer working. I check them out and they are working fine, the problem is that Dentrix can no longer import the images directly from the camera. I call support and find out that it’s a known problem that some offices are having, and will be fixed sometime soon.
11.0 is slower than 10.5. Attachments do not work with eClaims (for some offices), and our front desk staff can no longer take pictures of the patients for the clinical staff with our web cams. We are definitely not upgrading to G2 anytime soon.
WorkAround: DTX Support suggested that we take a picture with the webcam and save it on the desktop and then import the image from the desktop into the family file. Yes, this does work. Yes, this is a lot more complicated and takes a lot more time.
